BIOGRAPHY AND EDUCATION

Born in Somerset County, New Jersey, Mr. Wyatt grew up in Branchburg and Far Hills as the son of two teachers. He graduated from the Far Hills Country Day School as a “faculty kid,” and then attended the Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, where he graduated in 1998.

Thereafter, Mr. Wyatt received his B.A. cum laude from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., with a double major in English and American Studies, and with an informal minor in Economics (Cornell does not recognize formal minors). While at Cornell, Mr. Wyatt served as the Vice-President of Cornell’s largest undergraduate organization, the Cornell Economics Society. Mr. Wyatt was also an honors student in the American Studies department, and graduated from the Cornell-in-Washington program as part of his pre-law curriculum. During college, Mr. Wyatt was a ski instructor at Greek Peak Mountain Resort, and was the American Studies webmaster and webpage designer for many professors.

Wishing to pursue a legal career focused on alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”), Mr. Wyatt attended The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Columbus, Ohio, whose ADR program is perennially ranked #1 in the country. Mr. Wyatt earned his juris doctor in May of 2005, and received the CALI Award for Excellence in Business Transactions. Taking on additional course and practicum work, Mr. Wyatt also earned the esteemed Certificate in Dispute Resolution, which distinguishes those students who graduate from Ohio State Law with advanced knowledge and practical experience in ADR. While attending Ohio State Law, Mr. Wyatt was a published author, board member, and editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution, the official law journal of the American Bar Association’s Section on Dispute Resolution. Mr. Wyatt uses dispute resolution principles in his daily practice, both in preventing familial disputes through careful and thorough estate and trust planning, and in resolving and avoiding disputes via strategic handling of estate and trust administrations with often adversarial family relationships.

After over three years of night school and while working fulltime, in May of 2010, Mr. Wyatt earned an LL.M. (Master of Laws) in taxation from New York Law School. An LL.M. is a postgraduate law degree for attorneys, indicating specialized legal training. Mr. Wyatt concentrated his tax focus on estate, inheritance, and other transfer taxes (gift, generation-skipping, and capital gains taxes), which continue to play an important role in his day-to-day practice.
